
Amy Dunning is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at 69蹤獲app Springfield. She received her Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a focus on mathematics education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Prior to entering the Ph.D. program, she earned her undergraduate 69蹤獲app in elementary education (UNCG) and a master璽聶聶s 69蹤獲app in education (Elon University). Dr. Dunning also served in public schools as a middle school mathematics teacher and teacher leader. In graduate school, she built on these middle school experiences and developed specific expertise and interest in elementary mathematics education. At UIS, Dr. Dunning teaches mathematics methods courses for elementary, middle, and high school preservice teachers while also serving as Faculty Lead for Teacher Education. Her areas of research interest include teaching that is responsive to students璽聶聶 mathematical thinking, exploring whole-class mathematics discussions, and promoting the productive practices of selecting and sequencing student work for whole-class discussions. Dr. Dunning is engaged in many service opportunities supporting UIS at all levels. Her most prominent leadership role includes representing UIS at the University Senates Conference (USC).
