Adding Grading Rubrics to your Course
Rubrics serve as guiding tools for instructors in evaluating their students' work or performance, enhancing reliability, validity, and transparency in assessments (Chowdhury, 2018). While not suitable for all scenarios, such as multiple-choice exams, rubrics prove invaluable for performance-based tasks like writing, oral presentations, and projects. Generally, rubrics fall into three categories: analytic, holistic, and checklist.
Student Union Sculpture Restoration
Dear Campus Community,
We wanted to inform you that Facilities & Services will be overseeing the temporary removal of the sculpture, "Obstruction Reflection Transition," located at the southern end of the quad just outside the Student Union. Removal is necessary to facilitate essential restoration work aimed at preserving the sculpture's integrity.
We understand the importance of this artwork to our campus landscape, and every effort will be made to have the restored pieces reinstalled in time for the upcoming graduation ceremonies.
35 Years After Wrongful Conviction, Englewood’s Brian Beals Is Getting His Life Back
The following story was published by Block Club Chicago on Feb. 13, 2024.
Brian Beals was visiting home in fall 1988 when his life changed forever.
Beals, then 22, was majoring in administrative justice and law enforcement at Southern Illinois University. He wanted to become a police officer modeled after the coaches who taught his Englewood sports teams. A lifelong athlete, he played college football in Carbondale.
