First Tournament of the Season is a Success
SPRINGFIELD, IL (October 7, 2020) – The speech and debate competition season has begun! The Prairie Star speech and debate team participated in the Crimson Classic speech tournament hosted by the University of Alabama this past week. This competition took place asynchronously meaning students recorded their speeches and shared those recordings online. The speeches were viewed by judges throughout the week and the top scoring students were announced over the weekend.

UIS Competes in First Synchronous Virtual Tournament
SPRINGFIELD, IL (October 18, 2020) – The UIS Speech and Debate Team participated in the first synchronous, virtual tournament of the season. The Cyber Falcon classic was hosted by Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio and featured competitors from more than 40 teams around the nation. All collegiate speech and debate competitions are taking place online this year due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

SPRINGFIELD, IL (November 9, 2020) – The UIS Speech and Debate Team competed in the Mustang Invitational, a virtual tournament hosted by San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA. Senior Sarah Burris entered poetry interpretation at this competition, advanced to the final round, and placed fourth over students from across the nation. This tournament is the third competition for UIS this season.

SPRINGFIELD, IL (November 23, 2020) – The awards continue to come in from the UIS Speech and Debate Team. This past weekend, the team took part in the Sharknado Invitational hosted by Southeast Arkansas College. This was the team’s fourth virtual competition of the semester.

SPRINGFIELD, IL (December 14, 2020) – UIS Speech and Debate participated in their final tournament of the semester during finals week. The Online Asynchronous Tournament Series (OATS) first tournament was hosted by Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN. This tournament was the team’s fifth virtual competition of the semester.
