"Some  students  at  the  University  of  Illinois  Springfield  will  soon  be  spending  less  on  textbooks.  UIS  has  been  awarded  a  $102,668  Open  Education  Resources  grant  from  the  Illinois  Secretary  of  State  that  aims  to  reduce  students’  need  to  purchase  textbooks  by  promoting  the  use  of  free  learning  materials.</div>

Juneteenth,  celebrated  on  June  19,  marks  the  anniversary  of  enslaved  African  Americans  in  Texas  hearing  the  news  of  their  emancipation."</div>

"Former  Pana  star  Olivia  Lett  was  announced  as  the  next  head  coach  of  the  University  of  Illinois  Springfield  women’s  basketball  team  on  Friday.



She  replaces  Summer  Quesenberry  after  two  seasons,  pending  approval  by  the  board  of  trustees.</div>

"Mike  Hermann  was  announced  as  the  new  University  of  Illinois  Springfield  athletic  director  on  Thursday.



Hermann,  who  will  take  over  June  17  following  approval  by  the  board  of  trustees,  is  wrapping  up  his  third  year  as  the  senior  associate  athletic  director  for  external  operations  at  University  of  the  Pacific  in  California.</div>
