Orchestra Festival Concert
Join us in Sangamon Auditorium for the UIS Orchestra Festival Concert featuring the UIS Orchestra and Illinois Symphony Orchestra Youth Ensembles. Repertoire includes Elgar鈥檚 Enigma Variations, one of the best-known English orchestral works of all time whose enigma has yet to be solved. In the words of the composer:
鈥淭he Enigma I will not explain 鈥� its 鈥榙ark saying鈥� must be left unguessed, and I warn you that the connexion between the Variations and the Theme is often of the slightest texture; further, through and over the whole set another and larger theme 鈥榞oes鈥�, but is not played . . . . So the principal Theme never appears, even as in some late dramas 鈥� e.g. Maeterlinck鈥檚 L鈥橧ntruse and Les sept Princesses 鈥� the chief character is never on the stage.鈥�
