The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced its All-Midwest Region teams on Friday, the first of three organizations to release all-region awards for the season. Four Prairie Stars earned recognition for their 2025 campaigns: catcher Ivan Dahlberg and first baseman Mark Kattula were named to the first team, while shortstop Ethan Bowers and relief pitcher Seth Masters earned spots on the second team.
The UISÂ Prairie Stars finished seventh out of 15 GLVC member schools in the 2024-25 Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup standings, earning 71 points in the competition. UIS also placed ninth out of 19 schools in the GLVC All-Sports Trophy standings.
After two seasons at the helm of the Illinois Springfield baseball program, Trevor Forde has stepped down as head coach. Assistant Coach Chris Rodriguez will lead the program for the time being.
UIS junior distance runner Madelyn Miller has officially qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, taking place May 22–24 at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.
Miller will compete in both the 10,000m and 5,000m events. The 10,000m final is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. CT on Thursday, May 22, with the 5,000m final set for 9:05 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 24.
Illinois Springfield junior pitcher Rosie Bartletti has been named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Second Team All-Region, the organization announced Tuesday. It marks the first all-region honor of her career.
Bartletti was one of seven Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) student-athletes named to the second team, and one of two pitchers from the conference, joining Sami Huck of McKendree. Earlier this month, Bartletti was named First Team All-GLVC, capping a breakout season in the circle and at the plate.
The UIS baseball team dropped the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship game on Sunday afternoon, falling 11-1 to Missouri S&T in a winner-take-all matchup. The Miners, who entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed, claimed their first-ever GLVC title after battling through the losers' bracket.
The Illinois Springfield baseball team earned a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championship game after defeating Drury 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in Marion, Ill. With the victory, the Prairie Stars remain undefeated in the tournament and improve to 36-15 overall. UIS will return to the GLVC title game for the first time since winning it all in 2022.Â
Senior women's tennis standout Carmen Llopis Fabra has been selected as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month for April after a dominant stretch of play in conference action. Llopis Fabra, a native of Castellon, Spain, has been a consistent force in the Prairie Stars lineup and delivered her strongest performances of the season during the month of April.
Mark DeCicco delivered a complete-game masterpiece to lead Illinois Springfield to an 8-0 victory over Quincy on Friday afternoon at the GLVC Championship Tournament. The Prairie Stars' ace kept the Hawks off the scoreboard throughout, securing his seventh win of the season and propelling UIS deeper into the winner's bracket. With the win, UIS improves to 35-15, while Quincy drops to 26-26 on the season.
UIS softball third baseman Ella Brinkley has been named to the NFCA Division II All-Midwest Region Second Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Brinkley was named First Team All-GLVC this season, her third career all-conference nod and first time making the top team. This marks her first career all-region honor.
