Where can I find grant information?

The has many resources to assist nonprofits and patrons in locating grant information.

Our premier resource is the . This resource can be accessed from off campus for users with a NetID and password (UIS students, staff & faculty). For all others, it can only be accessed from on campus.

In addition, we have other database resources and some open source tools on

You can also contact CINRC via email at cinrc@uis.edu

Where can I check out a laptop?

We don't have laptops available for checkout through the library. However, we have desktops that can be used while in the building. Laptops are available for check out through ITS (located in BRK 180- lower level of the library) for 7 days.

Through the Equipment Check-Out Page, you can find equipment available for UIS students and faculty to check out, checkout procedures, and user responsibilities.

You can use the Maps and Directions page on the Brookens Library website and follow the link to the level 1 map, where ITS is located, or see our picture (pdf).

When will I get my I-Share books?

To check the status of your I-Share book, follow these steps. Once the book has arrived at our library for pick-up, you will receive an email.

  1. Sign in to your
  2. Select your name, and the in the drop down, select "Requests." An update will be available on this page. It might say "Request Sent to Institution" or "In Transit." It won't provide a specific date for when your book will arrive.
When should I use Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) when you need a book that is not available in Brookens Library or through the I-Share catalog. Also use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) when you need an article or book chapter not held by Brookens Library.

When can I study in the Library?

You can study in the library any time we are open.

Check our library hours page () for the current day's hours of operation before making the trip out to the library.

What types of materials may be requested via Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

The following materials may be requested:

  • Books not owned by Brookens Library or not available from an I-Share library.
  • Scans of articles or book chapters from items not owned by Brookens Library.

Please note that course required materials of any kind are not available via Interlibrary Loan (ILL) nor are DVD's.

What materials are generally not available through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Software, recently published materials, reference materials belonging to other libraries, and rare or valuable materials are generally not available via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). What kind of resources should I use for my research project?

Before you begin actively researching your topic, you will need to think about the types of sources that are available. Information comes to us from many sources - books, magazines, journals, newspapers, radio, television, websites, multimedia sources, etc... The type(s) of information you need will depend on the nature of your potential topic.

What is the library's on campus mailing address?

The library's on campus mailing address is MS BRK 140.

What is the difference between I-Share and Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

They are both ways to obtain books from other libraries. If a book is owned by one of the other I-Share libraries in Illinois, then patrons are required to request from them first. The patron requests the book directly from the online catalog (I-Share Catalog). If the book is not available, or has been requested and not filled by an I-Share library, then patrons may request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) department will then request the book from libraries outside the I-Share system. (If requested and unfilled from I-Share, please indicate this in the comments section of the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request form.)
